I also knitted two scarves made out of alpaca I spun earlier.  I took them outside to take pictures of them and Six Toe came to inspect them while Leo was laying on the bench.  Now there is a story behind the alpaca: talking to my vet, I learned that she knows some people with a pet alpaca and when they shear it, they just throw the fluff away.  So of course, I said that I'd take it!  That's how I acquire it, for free.  It is a beautiful fleece, but unfortunately it has a lot of second cuts.  This is not surprising considering that this alpaca was not shorn with spinning in mind!  But I was still able to spin enough of it to make two scarves.  I am going to give one to my vet and the other one to the owner of the alpaca as a thank you.
J'ai également tricoté deux écharpes avec de l'alpaga que j'ai filé.  Je les ai emmenées dehors pour les photographier et Six Toes est venu les inspecter tandis que Leo était sur le banc.  Alors, il y a une petite histoire derrière cet alpaga: en parlant avec mon véto, j'ai appris qu'elle connait des gens qui ont un alpaga de compagnie et lorsqu'ils le tondent ils jettent la toison.  Alors bien sur, j'ai dit que je la prendrais!  C'est comme ça que j'ai acquise cette toison, gratuitement.  Elle est très belle, mais malheureusement elle a beaucoup de deuxièmes coupes.  Ce n'est pas surprenant si on considère que cet alpaga n'a pas été tondu en pensant filage!  J'ai tout de même pu filer assez de laine pour faire deux écharpes.  Je vais un donner une à mon véto et l'autre au propriétaire de l'alpaga pour les remercier.

With this heat and humidity, I went for spinning in the grease.  I spun some grey Shetland, with very little twist, which gave me a nice and fluffy yarn.  This fleece has a lot of black hair and I found out that if I spin it with more twist or thinner, the black hair sticks out and makes the yarn a lot less soft.

Avec cette chaleur et humidité, j'ai filé dans le suint.  J'ai filé du Shetland gris, avec très peu de torsion, ce qui m'a donné de la laine bien gouflante.  Cette toison a beaucoup de poils noirs et j'ai trouvé que si je la file avec plus de torsion ou plus fine, les poils noirs rendent la laine beaucoup moins douce.

I also spun some white fleece which I then dyed.  I used three colors:  daisy, aster and indigo.

Snickers brought her kittens out.  They now live under our front porch.  She has four of them.  ME was able to take some pictures of them through the screen door, so I am sharing them with you:

Apparently our couch grew some paws...  Apparemment notre canapé a poussé des pattes...

Apollo's new favorite spot: sleeping on his bed in front of the window (note how he likes to lay with his front paws crossed!).  Le nouvel endroit préféré d'Apollo: dormir sur son lit devant la fenêtre (notez comme il aime être couché avec ses pattes de devant croissées!).

Same spot... I really like this one!!!  Même endroit... j'adore celle-ci!!!

And finally, as if I didn't have enough projects started already, I am now playing with fabric.  Elaine came for a visit on Saturday and she gave me some fabric so that I could try making some Cathedral Windows.  She showed me how to do it and so here is my first cathedral window.  Of course it is tiny and it has some problems (the biggest being those raw edges sticking out due to the fact that the background squares didn't have any hem), but it's a start...
Et pour finir, comme si je n'avais déjà pas assez de projets en cours, je joue maintenant avec du tissu.  Elaine est venue pour une visite samedi dernier et elle m'a donné du tissu pour que j'essaye de faire des fenêtres de cathédrale (traduction??).  Elle m'a montré comme faire et voici ma premiàre fenêtre.  Bien sur elle est toute petite et elle a beaucoup de problèmes (le plus gros étant les bords nus qui dépassent, à cause du fait que les carrés de fond n'ont pas d'ourlet), mais c'est un début...

 

While Elaine was here, we went to a couple of stores, one of which was a quilt store... so I bought some fabric of course!  I am going to make a bigger cathedral window and use the light blue fabric (which I already had) as background:
Pendant qu'Elaine était là, nous sommes allées dans quelques boutiques, l'une d'entre elles étant un magasin de tissu pour patchwork... alors j'ai acheté du tissu bien sur!  Je vais faire une fenêtre de cathédrale plus grande en utilisant le tissu bleu clair (que j'avais déjà) pour le fond:

The nice thing about this project is that, once you have cut and folded the pieces, it is very portable and very friendly to work on with this heat.
Une chose de bien avec ce projet c'est qu'une fois les morceaux coupés et pliés, c'est très portatif et agréable à faire malgré cette chaleur.

Oh, ces chatons, ils sont à croquer! Et Apollo qui se prélasse, il a l'air si heureux! Je trouve que tu fais des merveilles! Et merci encore pour le modèle des souris, elles sont très appréciées!

Thank you so much for the blankets, I really appreciate them. I'll be taking them to the Humane Society Saturday. I wanted to take them sooner, b ut with everything going on, I haven't had the change.

Argh, jeter de la toison d'alpaga, quel crime ! Heureusement que tu as pu en récupérer, tes écharpes sont magnifiques !
Les chatons sont adorables à croquer, j'ai l'impression que toutes les Christine aiment les chats :-)
