I actually completed this shawl a couple of weeks ago, but I have been trying to figure out how to take a picture of it... it is kind of big. The pattern is Sigga from "Faroese Knitting Patterns - Knitted Shawls" translated by Marilyn van Keppel; well at least the general shapping is since I made a few changes: the yarn I used was thicker than it called for so I adjusted the number of stitches and the decreases; also, I didn't like the all garter stitch so I made it in stockinette stitch and I added the thistle color pattern. This shawl is knitted from the bottom up like traditional Faroese shawls.

J'ai complété ce châle il y a quelques semaines, mais j'ai essayé de résoudre le problème de comment en prendre une photo... car il est un peu grand. Le patron est Sigga de "Faroese Knitting Patterns - Knitted Shawls" translated by Marilyn van Keppel; ou du moins la forme générale car j'ai fait quelques modifications: la laine que j'ai utilisée étant un peu plus épaisse que celle recommandée j'ai ajusté le nombre de mailles et les diminutions; aussi, je n'aimais pas trop le point mousse alors je l'ai fait au point jersey endroit et j'ai ajouté le motif du chardon en couleur. Ce châle est tricoté de bas en haut comme les châles traditionnels des îles Faroese.

The yarn I used was my own handspun. I wanted to use the same purple wool-mohair-alpaca yarn as I used for the Pi Bonnet, but I knew I would not have enough, so I planned on finishing the shawl with some of the fawn alpaca. But in order for the shawl to look more consistent, I wanted to have some of the alpaca at the bottom as well, so I decided to substitute the lace pattern with a fair isle pattern. The shawl did require all of the purple yarn left over from the Pi Bonnet (I had one pound of that roving to begin with), but it also required a LOT more of the fawn alpaca than I had anticipated: I barely had enough of the alpaca as well and I had one pound of that roving also!! So as you can imagine, this shawl is big, but I like big shawls, and it is also warm. What you cannot see in the pictures is that there are ties at each tip of the shawl, that way I can wrap it around myself and tie it in the back. J'ai utilisé de la laine que j'ai filée. Je voulais utiliser la même laine violette, mélange de laine-mohair-alpaga, que j'avais utilisée pour le Pi Bonnet, mais je savais que je n'en aurais pas assez, alors j'avais prévu de finir le châle avec de l'alpaga brun. Mais afin que le châle ait l'air plus consistant, je voulais avoir de l'alpaga en bas également alors j'ai décidé de remplacer le motif en dentelle par un motif fair isle. Le châle a en effet nécessité toute la laine violette qu'il me restait du Pi Bonnet (j'avais une livre de cette fibre pour commencer), mais il a aussi nécessité BEAUCOUP plus de l'alpaga que j'avais prévu: j'en ai eu juste assez et j'avais aussi une livre de cette fibre!! Alors comme vous pouvez imaginer, ce châle est grand, mais j'aime les grands châles, et il est aussi bien chaud. Ce que vous ne pouvez pas voir dans les photos est qu'il y a des attaches a chaque pointe du châle, si bien que je peux m'entourer avec lui et l'attacher dans le dos.
